From 1-5 December 2014 takes place the Pre-session of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) on Uganda in Geneva, Switzerland, in preparation of the review session of Uganda to be held next year in July 2015.

FIAN International and the Uganda Coalition on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights read each before the Pre-Sessional Working Group their major concerns regarding the guarantee of a wide range of economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR) by the State of Uganda as part of the Bill of Rights in the 1995 Constitution.

Among the issues raised were the concerns of grave human rights violations caused by a brutal eviction of approximately 4,000 people in Mubende District in Uganda, and the Ugandan government's failure to ensure equal access and enjoyment of various ESCR by all people, including the right to work and related labour rights, right to adequate food and nutrition, right to health, and other social and economic rights.

Furthermore, a parallel report on the Mubende case and a list of issues were submitted to the pre-session of the CESCR on Uganda.
