Launch of the Right to Food and Nutrition Watch 2014

The International Launch of the     Right to Food and Nutrition Watch 2014, titled "Ten Years of the Right to Food Guidelines: Gains, Concerns and Struggles", took place on October 8, 2014 at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters in Rome before the 41st session of the Committee on World Food Security (#CFS).

The Watch is the main monitoring tool of the Global Network for the Right to Food and Nutrition. It is published by a consortium comprising twenty civil society organizations and social movements.

The public event had Dr. Jomo Kwame Sundaram (FAO Assistant Director-General, Coordinator of the Economic and Social Development Department), Dr. Hilal Elver (UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food), Andrea Ferrante (La Via Campesina) and Dr. Flavio Valente and M. Alejandra Morena (FIAN International) as speakers. The number of attendees surpassed 60 people, and among them were included the Chair of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), FAO staff, government representatives, and social movements and civil society representatives, who provided comments and asked relevant questions.

Interviews

A series of interviews of social movements and civil society representatives were made after the international launch of the Right to Food and Nutrition Watch 2014 in Rome.

Among the interviewees were: Andrea Ferrante (La Via Campesina - LVC), Svetlana Boincean (International Union of Food Workers - IUF), Marcos Arana Cedeño (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action - WABA), and Lida Lhotska (International Baby Food Action Network - IBFAN).
